What will I learn?
Participants will learn to:
  • Practice proper personal hygiene.
  • Handle food safely during preparation and service.
  • Store food correctly to prevent contamination.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and premises.
Who should attend?
Food handlers who handle and prepare food and beverages in retail and non-retail food establishments. Existing food service sector employees who would like to renew their Food Safety Level 1 certification.
Entry requirement
  • Participants must submit relevant supporting documentation—such as certificates, academic transcripts, training materials, or courseware—demonstrating prior learning or experience in food safety or food hygiene.
  • Participants should have basic proficiency in English or Mandarin, including speaking, reading, and writing.
* Ineligible participants may choose to enrol in our WSQ Food Safety Level 1 course, which includes both training and assessment.
Assessment Method
Participants undergo a summative assessment that includes written and practical segments. This assessment takes approximately 1.5 hours but may extend beyond the stated course hours, depending on the individual pace of each learner.
Attendance Policy
Trainees must attend all classes, arrive on time, and stay for the full duration.
To be eligible for funding (if applicable):
  • A minimum of 100% attendance is required.
  • All assessments must be completed and successfully attained a ‘Competent’ grading in the final assessment.
A WSQ certificate will be awarded to those who meet attendance and competency requirements.
Certification
Participants who successfully complete the course (i.e. meet the required attendance and pass the assessments) will receive a Statement of Attainment (SOA) accredited by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG). The trainer will provide information about what to do if a participant is unable to successfully complete the course.
Course details:
Food Safety Course Level 1 is a mandatory programme for all F&B staff in SFA-licensed establishments and individuals seeking foundational food safety knowledge.
The Assessment Only Pathway (AOP) is an option provided by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) that allows individuals to attain a WSQ qualification through assessment alone, without attending formal training. (*Refer to entry requirements below)
The WSQ Food Safety Course Level 1 (Assessment Only Pathway) curriculum is developed by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and offered in English and Mandarin.
